Single phase electric motor runs on a single-phase alternating current (AC) power supply. It is most commonly used for small power tools, home appliances, and other devices that only have access to single-phase power. Simple in design, this device has a stator (stationary part) and a rotor (spinning part). While the rotor is an electromagnet that rotates and interacts with the magnetic field of the stator to produce torque, the stator contains the windings that form the magnetic field. Shaded-pole motors and split-phase motors are two additional categories for single-phase electric motor. It is easy to install, operate and maintain.
